Our Pilates classes at Echo Yoga follow the same teachings as first developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th Century. The practice has characteristics of Yoga, traditional Western-based exercises, and martial arts. Pilates has been lauded for providing many benefits to those who practice including improvements in strength, flexibility, and balance. The movements in Pilates provide a total workout for the whole body.
Pilates moves at a faster pace than traditional yoga sessions. One of the main components of Pilates is using core strength to achieve each pose. Pilates classes don’t require the use of tools and can be completed with just a mat. Core movements must be done against gravity, so you will feel challenged.
